How I work
BASECOATS
All finishes are applied over a previously painted surface, referred to as the basecoat. This is usually carried out by another contractor.
TOUGH AS NAILS`
For durability and longevity all finishes can be sealed with a protective coat, which can be washed, repaired, or repainted with ease. A well sealed finish will outlast most other finishes. Many finishes
WHEREVER PAINT GOES SO DO I
Most surfaces can be treated in the same way as regular painting and decorating. Walls, ceilings, woodwork, furniture, floors and exteriors.
GETTING THE FINISH YOU WANT
In choosing the finish, sample boards can be provided or on site samples which can be supervised and tailored by the Designer/Architect/Client.
THE COPYCAT
Often materials such as certain marbles, woods, stone are not easily available or are cost prohibitive, these can be successfully simulated especially if a sample of the material is available for copying.
MANY TALENTS
Other services include Restoration, Colour matching and design advice.
SIZE IS NO PROBLEM
One room to a whole house or one feature wall to a whole hotel.
WELL TRAVELLED
Having completed contracts in USA, Europe, UK and all over Ireland so unlike certain stouts I travel well.
PRICING
Rates are by the square metre so making it easier to quantify and for a third party to work out an estimate.
WHO PAYS THE PIPER ?
Work is carried out as sub-contractor or direct to client.
COMPARED TO OTHER FINISHES
Wallpaper?
The translucent quality of the glazes used gives a richness of light and colour that cannot be achieved with printed media not to mention the uniqueness of a hand finish.
1. More durable and easier to repair and repaint.
2. Also bad walls can be made good use of with certain techniques.
3. Humid conditions not a problem for bathrooms, kitchens or swimming pools.
Flat paint?
Most finishes, as they are made of broken colour effects will not show damage as easy as a flat finish so are ideally suited to high ware areas.
A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS
I had working with me last year the talented Alberta Calcagno, an Italian Artist from Genoa trained in fine art for over 8 years! She brought the Mediterranean with her to these more northern climes and I valued her influence.
Also recently worked with Danny Purthill returned to Dublin from San Francisco where he usually works, he brought with him an outstanding “eye for detail”. You can see his work on his website www.sproutingart.com
Ciara O’Connor worked with me for 4 weeks on a “work placement” from FÁS which runs the excellent Interior course with Joe Florence. Ciara had previously studied Art in college and wanted to be involved with Interiors of which she has an obvious talent. Some of her work can be seen here on this site. See is embarking on a freelance career of her own and will be collaborating on projects in the future.
